What changed for students? What next?
Why this, why now: a shared standard only changes learning if students can see it and use it. Only 3 of 10 sampled drafts came back in September while the student could still change them. From May 2027 the Extended Essay assesses reflection on growth as a learner. Outcome: students who can say what they will change on the next draft, asked during SLT visits. Baseline: 5 of 9 visits this half term. Aim: 8 of 9 visits by March. Leading indicator: sampled drafts returned while the student could still change the work, from 3 of 10 in Sep to 7 of 10 by March. The decision it forces (Anna Vester and Marco Ellison propose, Jonas Berg decides by 18 Dec 2026): what do we stop marking to buy lesson time for students to act on feedback? What it stops: grading every piece of work, and long comments on finished work.
